Bowling Green, Ky. — Postseason honors keep coming for the Western Kentucky University women’s soccer program following a regular-season championship and the best season in school history.
“Both Morgan and Mallory truly showed they are dynamic players this year,” said head soccer coach Jason Neidell. “These awards couldn’t be attained without an incredible supporting cast.”
Sun Belt Player of the Year Morgan Thomas was selected to the third-team all-region by Soccerbuzz.com. The sophomore defender anchored a unit that was at the top of the Sun Belt Conference and among the nation’s leaders. The Franklin, Tenn., native, scored five goals from her backline position. She also assisted on two Lady Topper goals for a total of 12 points. The first-team all-SBC member collected two match-winning-goals for WKU.
Freshman Mallory Outerbridge was named to the Soccerbuzz.com Great Lakes All-Freshman Team. A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Outerbridge tied junior Kristin Cocchiarella for the team lead in goals with eight. The forward collected five assists and finished with a team-high 21 points. That total ranks third in the Lady Topper record book for points in a season. The second-team all-SBC member led the team with 57 shots, which broke former Lady Topper Jenna Silverberg’s single-season record of 56. The Under-18 Canadian National team member recorded a school record for match-winning-goals in a season with five.
“With their youth, we look forward to future success for the Lady Topper soccer program,” stated Neidell.
The Lady Toppers finished the year 14-3-3 overall and 9-2-2 in conference action after falling to North Texas in the semifinals of the SBC tournament.
