Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University men’s swimmer Sean Penhale was named Sun Belt Conference swimmer of the week on Thursday after his swim in the 1650-yard Free last Saturday against Evansville.

Penhale won the 1650 Free in a time of 15:23.27 which shattered the school record by just under 4.5 seconds. The record was previously held by two-time SBC swimmer of the year Karl Swanson, dating back to 2005.

The Calgary, Alberta, native is now the only male swimmer to win the award twice this season after he claimed the honor back on Nov. 28.

The Hilltoppers return to action this Saturday (Jan. 26) in a home meet against Southern Illinois at 1 p.m. (CST).
