Bowling Green, Ky. — For the third time during the 2007-08 season — and the 12th time in her career — Western Kentucky University senior forward Crystal Kelly was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Kelly helped WKU remain undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play by averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds in wins over UALR and Denver last week. She posted a 30-point performance against the Pioneers to go along with nine rebounds. Kelly recorded her 13th double-double of the year — and the 40th of her career — with 18 points and 13 boards against UALR. On the week, Kelly shot 80 percent from the field (12-for-15). She also got to the free-throw line 31 times, connecting on 24 of those attempts (77.4%). She also finished the week with three blocked shots. Thanks to a 6-for-8 day from the field against DU, Kelly passed Lillie Mason to become WKU‘s leader in career field goals with 869.
For the season, Kelly is averaging 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. She ranks second in the Sun Belt in scoring, and leads the league in both rebounding and field-goal percentage (.625). She became the first Lady Topper to ever score 500 points in all four of her seasons on the Hill Saturday, and enters Wednesday’s game at North Texas with 523 points scored on the year.
