Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University men’s swimmer Sean Penhale was named Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week on Thursday. This is the third time this season that Penhale has garnered the award.
Penhale broke three more records on the year at Louisville last week. The Calgary, Alberta, native won the 1000-yard Free in a time of 9:14.97, over 13 seconds ahead of the pack. With that time, Penhale broke his own school record by almost 3.5 seconds, broke the Ralph Wright Natatorium record by over 10 seconds, and is almost 22 seconds ahead of SBC competition in the event. The sophomore then won the 500 Free in 4:32.25 breaking the Natatorium mark of 4:34.52.
The Hilltoppers have most of the month off before hosting the Sun Belt Conference Championships Feb. 28-March 1 at the Nashville Centennial Sportsplex.
