Bowling Green, Ky. — Head Coach Jason Neidell announced Saturday that the 2008 recruiting class for the Western Kentucky University women’s soccer program is now complete with the additions of Hayley Marsh and Kelsey Meyer. The Lady Toppers have six signees going into the ’08 season.
Marsh — who hails from Littleton, Co.— was a 2007 all-state honorable mention as well as being named all-conference and the co-captain of her Chatfield Senior High team. She was selected to participate in the state’s Olympic Development Program from 2003-07. The 5-feet, 6-inch defender was the team captain of her club team — Colorado Rush Nike — who won six club state titles and was a two-time region IV finalist. Her club team also won the 2008 Disney Showcase championship.
“Hayley is a hard-nosed and technical center back with great presence on the field. Her club team competed at a very high level and she is well-prepped for the college game,” stated Neidell. “She is aggressive, organizes well and serves great balls out of the back. She also has an awesome competitive spirit about her.”
Meyer, a 5-feet, 2-inch midfielder was awarded with a 2007 All Southwest Ohio honorable mention and was selected to the all-conference first team. She was second-team all-conference in 2006 and academic all-conference in 2005. Meyer was a two time MVP for her Fairfield High team and was a three year letter winner. She was named a Fairfield Echo Athlete of the Week in 2007. Meyer’s club team, Ohio Elite, won the 2007 state championship and was a three-time finalist. She was selected to the Super Y League ODP Regional Team and National camp from 2004-2007.
“Kelsey is a crafty and skillful player. She has quick feet and is very comfortable on the ball. We look forward to nurturing those skills and helping her develop a more assertive role on the field,” said Neidell. “She certainly has the playmaking tools to become an all-conference Sun Belt player.”
“This class is loaded with talent. It was a great recruiting year, particularly in the state of Kentucky. We have made our team stronger in every position on the field and we expect this year’s newcomers to make an immediate impact,” said Neidell. “Most importantly, each of these recruits is also a model student and citizen whose personality will complement our team dynamics.”
