Troy, Ala. — Third baseman Rebecca Horesky — of the Western Kentucky University softball team — was named first-team all-Sun Belt Conference Tuesday evening at the league’s postseason awards banquet.

Horesky lived up to her preseason all-SBC billing this year after making the second-team squad as a sophomore. The Woodbridge, Va., native ranks in the top-10 all-time at WKU for a career in batting average (.300), hits (147), multiple-hit games (38), doubles (25), RBI (82) and multiple-RBI games (22). The junior ranks second on the team this year in average (.327), runs (26), hits (50), home runs (nine), RBI (30), total bases (89) and slugging percentage (.582), while leading the team in doubles.

Horesky’s average has jumped 33 points over the last 15 games of the regular season, as the Toppers have won 12 of those contests. During that stretch, Horesky went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs in a victory over Belmont. On the opening weekend of the season she also helped the Hilltoppers to a win over Notre Dame with her grand slam in the fifth inning and then smacked a three-run homer the next day to give WKU a victory over Oklahoma State.

The Toppers will be in action in the Sun Belt tournament beginning on Wednesday. WKU — the eighth seed — will face off against Louisiana-Lafayette, the No. 1 seed in the bracket and the No. 16 team in the country. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
