It appears WKU men's basketball coach Ken McDonald's added another guard to his 2008-09 roster, but reports conflict on the capacity of that addition.
Amid reports in the Kentucky New Era and Bowling Green Daily News that 5-foot-10 guard Robbie Townsend signed with the Hilltoppers, Fort Campbell High School coach Kim Gammons told WBKO Monday Townsend committed to walk on at WKU.
Townsend reportedly also held scholarship offers from Southern Indiana and Alabama A & M.
The difference between signing and committing to walk on is significant. When a player signs a national letter-of-intent, it's a binding agreement and can be discussed or confirmed by university officials. A commitment isn't binding on the part of the player or the school and university officials wouldn't be able to comment on any commitments who have yet to enroll in classes. WKU has yet to comment on Townsend's status.
Townsend averaged 21.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in helping the Falcons to a 14-8 record this season.
