Bowling Green, Ky. — Less than 24 hours after claiming the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship with a 17-5 win over New Orleans, the Western Kentucky University baseball team learned that it will be headed to Stillwater, Okla., for the third NCAA Regional in school history.
The Hilltoppers also advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 after winning their first Sun Belt Tournament title, and in 1980 as the Ohio Valley Conference champion.
The Hilltoppers (33-25) are seeded fourth in the regional, and will face top-seeded Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. (CDT) on Friday (May 30) at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. The Cowboys — who are ranked 10th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll — finished second in the Big 12 regular-season, and bring a 42-16 record into the postseason.
WKU and Oklahoma State are joined in the regional by second-seeded Wichita State (44-15) and Mountain West Conference Champion TCU (43-17), who will play at 1 p.m. (CDT) on Friday.
