Bowling Green, Ky. — The Western Kentucky University football program donned only helmets and shoulder pads for Friday’s workout at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium for their 14th overall practice of the 2008 preseason camp.
“We are just trying to be smart when we come off a day like yesterday,” stated head coach David Elson. The Hilltoppers practiced yesterday afternoon completing the second of two mini-scrimmages of the week. “The one thing that is great about this group is they enjoy practicing and coming out and competing. The team is fun to work with and we have good leadership and a good attitude overall.”
“We are being smart with some of the guys we got back to practice today, gearing up for the full scrimmage tomorrow,” said Elson. “We are getting better and better when it comes to getting guys off the injury list.”
The Hilltoppers went through a series of individual work before coming together as a whole unit for team competition.
WKU is in its final year of transition into the Sun Belt Conference and is its first season as a member of the 120 institutions competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Hilltoppers are entering in their 90th season of football on the Hill and will open the 2008 season at Indiana on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. (CDT).
