Bowling Green, Ky. — The Western Kentucky University football program took to Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium twice on Monday for the 17th and 18th practices of the 2008 fall camp. The team will practice once on Tuesday (2:45 p.m.) before holding a mock game on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
“We continue to have good effort, and I really like our leadership,” Head Coach David Elson said. “There doesn’t seem to be any of the training camp blues. Our guys have consistently had a good attitude and have continued to practice hard.”
The weather for the morning practice was considerably warmer. “It got a little hotter and that was good for us. We needed to have that,” said Elson. “I thought our guys fought through it pretty well, but we still have to learn to execute and stay focused when it’s hot and when we begin to get tired.
“We are trying to narrow down on the guys that will end up on the bus with us heading to IU,” said Elson. “Those are the guys we need to make sure are getting quality reps.”
The Hilltoppers will travel to Indiana on August 30th to open the 90th season of football for WKU, the first as one of the 120 members of the Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A). Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. (CST) in Bloomington, and the game will be telecast live on the Big Ten Network.
