A day after Indiana University suspended all-America defensive end Greg Middleton, Western Kentucky University football announced a suspension of its own Wednesday in advance of its opener with the Hoosiers on Saturday.

Junior cornerback Rashad Etheridge, who started eight games in the defensive backfield as a sophomore, has been suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

The move was first reported by the Bowling Green Daily News and was confirmed by WKU head coach David Elson before practice Wednesday.

Elson said he wasn't sure when or if Etheridge would return, but added that Etheridge "should return if everything goes well."

Etheridge, a 5-foot-8 product of St. Augustine (FL) Catholic High School, recorded 19 tackles (11 solo) with one interception and six passes defensed in 2007.
