Bowling Green, Ky. — The WKU volleyball team blew past Florida Atlantic sweeping the Owls 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) to improve to 13-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Lady Toppers depended on hot offensive hitting and superb defensive play to seal the victory. In addition, senior and three-time All-American, Megan Argabright, had an explosive night finishing with 14 kills and moving to the top of the WKU record book in kills with 1,749.
"We are excited to get this win tonight," head coach Travis Hudson said. "I think that FAU is one of the most improved teams in the Sun Belt and they are definitely headed for success. As far as Megan goes, she is a young lady that deflects attention and I know that when it is all said and done that she will be remembered as one of the most special athletes that WKU has every had, regardless of what sport they play."
The Lady Toppers never hit below .250 in any set posting a .528 hitting percentage in the second set, their best of the night. In the first set, the Lady Toppers started off slow and fell as far below as seven points. But, the Lady Toppers exploded late after a kill by Argabright that tied the set at 23 and then they took the lead for good off a kill by sophomore Emily Teegarden.
In the second set, it was all WKU as they took the lead early and ran away from the Owls outscoring Florida Atlantic by 10 points. The Lady Toppers were nearly perfect on both sides of the ball posting only one error and a match-high 20 kills in the set.
Finally in the third set, the Lady Toppers continued to dominate on offense posting 15 kills en route to their outstanding win. In addition to Argabright, who finished with 14 kills, a .522 hitting percentage, one ace, one dig and one block, senior Julia Noe posted nine kills, 36 assists, eight digs, one block and a.818 hitting percentage. Junior Brittany Bowen also got in on the action adding nine kills and three blocks in the match and finished with a .429 hitting percentage. Overall, four Lady Toppers finished with over a .250 hitting percentage and the Lady Toppers recorded 52 kills, 52 assists, three aces, 41 digs, nine blocks and a .374 hitting percentage.
The Owls were held to only 32 kills, 27 assists, 29 digs, 12 total blocks and a.181 hitting percentage. Their best set of the match also came in set two when they finished with 11 kills and only three errors for a .286 hitting percentage.
