Greenwood may still not be considered an elite team in Class 6A, but the Gators took another step toward notoriety on Friday night.
Logan Pemberton accounted for four touchdowns and Greenwood scored 21 second-half points as the visiting Gators (4-2) sent Monroe County to its first loss this season, 35-21.
The game was tied at 14 through one quarter, but the Gators outscored the Falcons (5-1) 21-7 in the second period to provide the final margin.
The win was the second straight for the Gators, who are also 2-0 in Class 6A District 2 play.
Pemberton finished 17-of-30 passing for 228 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 40 yards and another score on 13 carries. Ricky Adams was Pemberton's favorite target, catching five passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Justin Harlan was 15-of-22 passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns for the Falcons but also threw two interceptions. Travis Kendall led Monroe County with 56 yards and a score on eight attempts.
Greenwood goes back into district play next week when it hosts Nelson County while Monroe County has an open week before visiting Glasgow Oct. 17th.
