Little Rock, Ark. - The Lady Toppers could not rebound from their first Sun Belt loss of the season last weekend falling to UALR 3-0 (18-25, 24-26, 20-25) after struggling offensively and defensively the entire night. WKU, who was plagued by errors from the beginning, falls to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in the Sun Belt while UALR improves to 6-0 in the Sun Belt and 17-2 overall.
The Lady Toppers struggled from the first point of the match finishing the first set with a .211 hitting percentage and posting only 13 kills. After an error by the Lady Toppers, UALR jumped out to an early lead going up by as much as eight points in the set and WKU had no answer for the Trojans as UALR finished with 17 kills and only two errors for a .405 hitting percentage.
In set two, the Lady Toppers and Trojans battled until the end but it was UALR who prevailed dominating when it mattered most. After taking the lead at 24-23 off a kill by senior Megan Argabright, WKU lost control of the set after three consecutive kills by UALR’s Anita Bucur who secured the win for the Trojans.
In the final set, UALR once again blew past WKU picking up 15 kills en route to the win. Offensively for the Lady Toppers, the third set was their worst of the night as they recorded seven errors and only 12 kills for a match-low .128 hitting percentage.
Senior Julia Noe led the way for the Lady Toppers finishing with a team high 11 kills, 27 assists, and a .688 hitting percentage. Additionally, Noe posted an ace, a block and eight digs in the loss.
WKU finished the night with 44 kills, 20 a .188 hitting percentage, 35 assists, three aces, 48 digs and eight blocks. UALR tallied 48 kills, only 10 errors, a .314 hitting percentage, 45 assists, three aces, 51 digs and 11 blocks.
WKU will hit the court tomorrow afternoon against Arkansas State at 3 p.m. CDT.
