Little Rock, Ark. — The Western Kentucky University soccer team downed UALR 2-0 on Friday night to remain unbeaten on the 2008 season and have not surrendered a goal in the eight of the last nine matches.
With the victory, WKU moves to 9-0-2 overall and 3-0-2 in Sun Belt Conference play. UALR falls to 6-7-1 on the year and 2-3 in conference action.
Kellie Walker got things rolling early in the first half for WKU when she scored off a pass from Hayley Marsh in the 10th minute. The goal marks Walker’s fourth of the year. Marsh has recorded an assist in each of the last three matches. The score was the only one of the first half of action.
During the 58th minute, Amanda Buechel attempted a shot from 30 yards out and found the back of the net. The score marked her fifth of the season — which ties Kristin Cocchiarella and Megan Meinke for the team’s lead. Buechel also leads the Lady Toppers in points (15).
Libby Stout — who has only allowed four goals on the year — collected her eighth shutout of the season. The freshman goalkeeper stopped three of the 10 UALR shot attempts.
WKU will be in action again on Sunday at Arkansas State. Kickoff is set to begin at 1 p.m. (CDT). Arkansas State defeated MTSU earlier tonight 2-1.
