Bowling Green, Ky. — The Western Kentucky University soccer team said a final home good-bye to three seniors — Catie Chase, Kristin Cocchiarella and Alaina Atcher — with a 3-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.
"Today was really fantastic. We had all these signs and all the fans that showed up for the match today and it really was a fantastic match for our seniors today. Catie got her first career goal today and Kristin had two assists. Our entire program is really excited for our seniors," said head coach Jason Neidell.
The Lady Toppers have yet to be beaten this season moving to 12-0-3 overall and 7-0-2 in Sun Belt Conference action. ULM falls to 4-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league action.
"We are really excited about the win. We set some goals at the beginning of the year to go 4-0 at home in conference action and we were able to accomplish that today and we are really excited about where we are going into the home stretch of the conference race," stated Neidell.
WKU got things started in the first half when Lindsey Goad found the net in the 31st minute for her fourth goal of the season. Kaylyn Pratt and Nikki Workman were credited with assists on the play and the Lady Toppers were up 1-0 heading into the half.
Just two minutes and twenty-three seconds into the start of the second half, Cocchiarella found Pratt for her third goal of the year to put WKU up 2-0.
Chase — who transferred to WKU before the year started — recorded her first goal of her career in the 63rd minute to secure the match for the Lady Toppers. Cocchiarella and Megan Meinke assisted on the scoring play.
Libby Stout collected her school record 11th shutout of the season. She stopped five ULM shot attempts. The WKU defense was stifling once again allowing only 10 total shots and five shots on goal.
WKU heads into the final two weekends of the year looking to win back-to-back regular-season SBC titles. The Lady Toppers will travel to Denver and North Texas next weekend, before heading to Middle Tennessee for the final match of the regular season.
