Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University sophomore forward Arnika Brown was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after opening the season with a pair of double-doubles against Murray State and 12th-ranked Vanderbilt last weekend.
Brown averaged 23.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game in the two contests. She opened the season with a career-high 27-point, 17-rebound effort against defending OVC champion Murray State, then followed that up two days later with a 20-point, 13-board game against Vandy.
Averaging 37.5 minutes per contest, Brown shot 58.6 percent from the field (17-for-29) and 92.9 percent at the free-throw line (13-14). That included a 9-for-9 effort at the stripe in the season opener.
The Lady Toppers (1-1) return to the court on Friday, facing off with George Washington at 7 p.m. (CST) at E.A. Diddle Arena. WKU will then hit the road for a Sunday contest at Eastern Kentucky.
