BATON ROUGE, La. -- Marcus Thornton had a steal and hit three of four free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal LSU's 81-79 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.
The Tigers (11-1) won despite being outscored 55-6 by the Ragin' Cajuns (4-8) from the bench.
Tasmin Mitchell led LSU with 25 points, connecting on 11 of 16 field goals to go along with six steals and four rebounds. Bo Spencer added 20 points, including 8 of 11 free throws, and handed out four assists. Thornton had 12 points.
The game was close throughout the first half as LSU took a 40-31 halftime lead.
Randell Daigle, who led the Ragin' Cajuns with 24 points, hit a double-clutch 3-pointer to make it a two-point game with eleven seconds remaining.
Daigle connected on 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Chris Gradnigo and Travis Bureau had 13 points and four rebounds apiece.
