If Muhlenberg County High School is formed in time for the 2009-10 school year, it would immediately face some pretty stiff competition on the football field.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association announced at its monthly Board of Control meeting that the new school would compete at the 6A level, Kentucky's highest classification for high school football.
The Kentucky Board of Education still has to approve the formation of the school, which would join Muhlenberg South and Muhlenberg North High Schools.
Muhlenberg South competed in Class 3A in 2008, finishing 5-6 and losing in the first round of the playoffs. Muhlenberg North finished 1-10 in Class 4A, also losing in the first round of the playoffs.
