Toppers Fight Off Second-Half Rally In Win At ULM

MONROE, La. -- A.J. Slaughter scored 20 points and Western Kentucky defeated Louisiana-Monroe 64-55 on Thursday night.

Western Kentucky (16-7, 10-2 Sun Belt Conference) led 32-28 at halftime, then Louisiana-Monroe tied the game at 36-36 on a Malcolm Thomas 3-pointer with 17:35 left in the game.

The Hilltoppers regained the lead, this time for good, on a Steffphon Pettigrew jumper with 16:55 left, making the score 38-36.

Western Kentucky led by as many as 60-50 with 3:24 to play on two free throws by Orlando Mendez-Valdez.

Mendez-Valdez added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Hilltoppers and Pettigrew chipped in 10.

Rudy Turner paced the Warhawks (7-15, 3-8) with 15 points and seven boards. Dynile Forbes chipped in 13 points and Lawrence Gilbert added 10.
