Western basketball players will soon be playing to a new tune at home games.
Western grad student Mark Melloan is recording a song and making a video that will be played on the Jumbotron at Diddle Arena during basketball games at home.
Titled "High on a Hilltop," the song is about Western's basketball teams of old when they were led by Coach E.A. Diddle to many winning seasons during the 1920s-1940s.
"Western has a spirit that deserves to be celebrated. Diddle has a legacy that deserves to be celebrated. We're celebrating that tradition todY recording "High on a Hilltop," Melloan says.
Melloan wrote the song over the summer and recently played it at an alumni event. President Randsdell liked it so much he asked Melloan to record the song in a studio for home basketball games.
On the song, Melloan is accompanied by an all-star cast of musicians including Nickel Creek's Byron House, Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters, and Western alums Larnelle Harris and Begee Adair.
