Logan County's 12-year-old Little Leaguers continued their run through the Great Lakes Little League Regional on Thursday, dispatching Chicago, Ill. 10-4 to move within one win of the Little League World Series.
Zach Denney was a star on the mound and at the plate for Logan County, pitching a complete game while allowing 12 hits and four runs while finishing 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run, a double and two RBI. Joe Holliday was great at the dish as well, finishing 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs and three RBI in the win.
Logan County jumped out early, scoring four runs in the top of the first. The Illinois state champs responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third, but Logan took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the third.
Logan County now plays Bartholomew County, Ind. in Saturday's final. The Indiana state champs advanced with a 3-1 win over Hamilton, Ohio earlier Thursday. The two teams met during round-robin play at the regional, with Bartholomew County winning 9-7 on the strength of seven first-inning runs.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CST Saturday. The game will air live on ESPN.
