BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the second time this season WKU Lady Topper midfielder Kellie Walker was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
Walker helped the Lady Toppers to two impressive conference wins over the weekend, recording two goals and two assists in victories over Arkansas State and UALR. It is Walker’s second player of the week award of her career, with the first coming earlier this season for the week of September 14.
The senior from Novi, Mich., found the net twice in a 4-0 Lady Topper win over Arkansas State on Sunday, her fourth and fifth goals of the season. She also added an assist on a third WKU goal. Her five points in the match were a single-game season high for the Lady Toppers.
Against UALR on Monday Walker assisted on Mallory Outerbridge’s 31st minute goal, which put WKU ahead 3-0. That assist was Walker’s 10th of the season and 22nd of her career, vaulting her past Crystal Chapon into first place all-time at WKU in both single-season and career assists.
For the season Walker has five goals and 10 assists, good for a team-high 20 points. Her 20 points rank her second in the conference this year and give her 66 in her WKU career, good for third all-time. She is just one point behind Allison Nellis for second all-time and five behind Jenna Silverberg for most career points in a Lady Topper uniform.
She has recorded a point in 10 of WKU’s 14 games this season, plus at least one point in four straight games and six of the last seven.
Walker and the Lady Toppers will continue Sun Belt Conference play this weekend when they travel to Louisiana to play Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM.
