BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Following the first weekend of competition for the WKU men's and women's swimming and diving teams, freshmen Luke Musser and Kylie Ruiz have been named the Sun Belt Conference's Male Swimmer of the Week and Female Diver of the Week respectively.

Musser, a native of Overland Park, Kansas and competing as a Hilltopper for the first time, was named the swimmer of the week following his two wins against Georgia Tech and Clemson. In the 100 Breast, he posted a time of 53.47 seconds to take the top spot. He then followed up that performance with a time of 2:04.27 in the 200 Breast to complete his sweep of the events. In the 200 Breast, Musser's time was also over three seconds faster than the second place finisher.

Ruiz, also competing in her first meet for WKU, finished third in the three meter diving competition. In the event, she tallied 244.10 points.

During the weekend, the Hilltoppers fell to Georgia Tech 164-136 and battled with Clemson until the final event of the day falling to the Tigers 155-143. But, the Lady Toppers opened up the 2009 season with wins over Miami (FL), 178-114 and a tie against Georgia Tech, 150-150, before falling to Clemson by a score of 164.50-135.50. WKU will return to the pool on October 24 when they host the Red and White Meet.
