Lady Topper Volleyball Sweeps Denver In Front Of 1,357 Fans
Stuckel's seven kills lead WKU to sweep of Denver in front of largest home crowd this season.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In front of the second largest crowd in WKU volleyball history, the Lady Toppers gave the 1,357 fans in attendance something to cheer about sweeping Sun Belt conference foe, Denver (25-16, 25-11, 25-21) to extend their winning streak to four. With the win, the WKU volleyball moved one step closer to defending their 2008 championship crown and improved to 15-6 this season and 4-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.

In set one, WKU only managed a .185 hitting percentage and 11 kills but held Denver to just six kills and a -.040 hitting percentage to take a 1-0 advantage in the match. After scoring the first three points in the set, WKU got off to an early lead before Denver was able to rally back and take a 7-6 lead. Trailing 10-7, the Lady Toppers battled back to tie the set up at ten after an error by the Pioneers before Denver scored the next point and went ahead again by a score of 11-10. But, WKU scored the next four points in the set to go ahead 14-11 after an ace by freshman Jordyn Skinner. From there, Denver was never able to catch up with the Lady Toppers and WKU won the set after a kill by senior Brittany Bowen.

The Lady Toppers were nearly unstoppable in set two from the very beginning. WKU began the set with a 4-0 lead after kills by junior Emily Teegarden and sophomores Lindsay Williams and Lauren Stuckel and an ace by Bowen. Up 4-0, WKU continued to extend their lead and outscored Denver 21-11 the rest of the way. In the set, WKU recorded 11 kills and zero errors to finish with a .611 hitting percentage. Once again, WKU managed to keep Denver's offense in check allowing the Pioneers to record just ten kills and seven errors for a .115 hitting percentage.

In the final set, Denver picked up the early lead scoring the first two points of the set off a kill by Alexis Ninos and a WKU attack error. After falling behind by as many as three points, WKU finally tied things up at 9-9 after an attack error by the Pioneers. Then, for the first time in the set, WKU took a 10-9 lead after another error by Denver and never trailed again pulling out the 25-21 victory following a serving error by Denver. In the set, the Lady Toppers posted 12 kills and just three errors for a .360 hitting percentage.

In the match, WKU was led by Stuckel who finished the night with a team-high seven kills and a .778 hitting percentage. She also led the team in assists with 18 while freshman Sarah Rogers posted a team-high 11 digs. In the blocks category, Bowen led the team with one solo block and two block assists. As a team, the Lady Toppers recorded 34 kills and a .357 hitting percentage after committing just nine errors in 70 attempts. The Lady Toppers also recorded 30 assists, four aces, 27 digs and ten blocks.

Denver finished the night with a .071 hitting percentage after tallying 30 kills and 24 errors in 84 attempts. The Pioneers also posted 27 assists, three aces, 22 digs and eight blocks during the night.
