For a 17-point-per-game scorer, Warren Central guard Jeremy Anderson's opening-round performance Thursday in the 90th National City/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 left a little to be desired.

Anderson hit none of his three shot attempts, tallying just two points in the Dragons' win over June Buchanan.

Suffice to say Anderson's quarterfinal performance was better.

The senior, playing in his 12th state tournament game, scored 25 points (including making four-of-11 three-point attempts) in Warren Central's 92-76 win over Elliott County.

Monie Hudson added 19 for the Dragons (30-4), while Joe Hood recorded 14 points and six rebounds in the win.

The Dragons held a 14-point halftime lead and were up as many as 28 in the fourth quarter, but the night hardly started so easy.

After bursting out to a 9-1 lead, Central saw the Lions counter with a 12-2 spurt of their own to take a 13-11 edge. But the Dragons got seven of their next nine points from the bench (including five from freshman guard Pete Winn), led by five through one quarter and were never seriously challenged from there.

The win puts Central into Saturday's semifinal round for the third time in four seasons, and pits the Dragons against a familiar foe.

Central will face Ballard, which beat George Rogers Clark 71-48 Friday to move on. The Bruins have three state championships to their credit and beat the Dragons 59-54 Dec. 18th in the King of the Bluegrass at Fairdale.

The survivor of the Dragons-Bruins matchup advances to the state championship game 7 p.m. (CT) Saturday in Lexington.
