FT. MYERS, Fla. - Neil Horsley continued his superb play on Tuesday, firing a final round 68 to finish fourth at the 2009 Renaissance Invitational. The junior from Cooper City, Fla. concluded the two-day tournament at 13-under-par, just three shots back of tying for medalist honors. Indiana (-32) overtook day one leader Campbell to win the team title.

The 54-hole event was contested at the 7,046-yard, par 72 Club at Renaissance in Fort Myers, Fla. and hosted by Xavier University. The Club at Renaissance was designed by famed golf architect Arthur Hills.

Penn State (-30) also leaped over the Camels (-26) to take second place while Liberty (-15) and Miami (Ohio) (-14) rounded out the top five. WKU (+15) finished 11th in the 12-team field despite recording three of their top five totals of 2009. A final round of 292 was just behind Monday's opening round 290 for the Toppers' best total of the season. WKU finished second in par three scoring at one-over-par (3.02), trailing only the Hoosiers' three-under-par (2.95).

Alex Martin of Indiana claimed medalist honors with a final round 67 to finish at 16-under-par.

For Horsley, the fourth place finish marks his first top 10 as a Hilltopper. As a freshman at UMKC, he recorded a pair of top fives in the fall of 2007 before transferring to WKU. The 54-hole total of 203 is the best by a Hilltopper since Brent Long fired a 203 (68-67-68) to win the Xavier Invitational back on October 2, 2007.

Horsley carded seven birdies on Tuesday to finish with 20 for the two days, tying for second in the 65-player field. He was also tied for third in both par four (3.83) and par five (4.33) scoring at five-under-par and eight-under-par respectively.

Seeing his first action of the fall, sophomore Doug Kleeschulte quietly turned in the second-best 54-hole total by a Hilltopper this season at seven-over-par 223. The Kingston, N.Y. native signed for a one-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish 45th.

Alex Yost carded a 75 and tied for 54th at 11-over-par. Andrew Heiser finished 60th at 14-over-par after a final round 78 while Will Beard tied for 61st at 15-over-par following his second-straight 76.

WKU has now concluded the fall portion of their 2009-10 schedule. When the Toppers resume in the spring, they will be hosting the Kauai Collegiate Cup on March 12-13, 2010 in Kauai, Hawaii.
