The process to interview potential head coaches for the football program at Western Kentucky University has begun.

Arkansas offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Paul Petrino arrived in Bowling Green a little after 6:00 p.m. Saturday to interview for the WKU football head coaching position. He flew in to Bowling Green/Warren County Regional Airport after the Razorbacks' win over Mississippi State in Little Rock, Ark. on Saturday afternoon.

Petrino then left the airport for an undisclosed location with Alex Downing, a member of WKU's head coaching search committee. He declined comment when arriving.

Petrino left Bowling Green after WKU associate athletic director/communications Todd Stewart brought him back to Bowling Green/Warren County Regional Airport a little after 10:00 p.m. He again declined comment to reporters at the airport.

Petrino was, however, asked about the job opening after Saturday's game and while he was complimentary of the program, he didn't elaborate on his interest in the job opening.

"Any time a great program like that's interested in you, it makes you feel good and you're flattered," Petrino told reporters in Little Rock. "I said the day I got (to Arkansas) my goal in life is to be a head coach someday, so that's something you just have to let play out and see. But right now, my job is just to beat LSU next week."

When asked if he'd communicated with WKU about the job Petrino said, "Not really. That's not really something I want to comment on."

Petrino is the brother of current Arkansas head coach and former Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino. He's been a member of his brother's staff at Louisville and Arkansas and with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Carroll College (Mont.) in 1990. After two years there, he was part of the staff at Idaho (1992-94), Utah State (1995-97) and then Louisville (1998-99), where he worked under John L. Smith.

After returning to Louisville as offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach in 2003, Paul Petrino is credited with helping the Cardinals rank among the top 10 nationally in total offense for four straight seasons.

In his nearly two years at Arkansas, the Razorbacks ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference in total offense in 2008 and currently lead the conference in total offense, scoring offense and passing offense this season.
