Bowling Green, Ky. — Derrius Brooks, one of the 31 players to be a part of Western Kentucky University’s first NCAA Division I-A (Football Bowl Subdivision) football recruiting class, has won the 100-meter dash title for the second straight year at the Georgia state meet.
Competing in Class AAA, Brooks finished with a time of 10.742 seconds to account for all but one of Harris County High School’s points in the team standings. As a junior, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound wide receiver won the race after posting a 10.5 clocking.
Brooks shared team most-valuable-players honors last fall, while also being recognized as player of the week by both the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Columbus Ledger.
The Hilltoppers will begin the first of two transition years at the FBS level with a trip to take on defending national champion Florida on Sept. 1.
