CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Casey Mears gambled on fuel and won NASCAR's longest race, the Coca-Cola 600. Mears shunned a late fuel stop and it paid off in his first career Nextel Cup victory after 156 races.
Mears is the nephew of Rick Mears, a four-time Indy 500 winner.
J.J. Yeley ran second, his best career finish. Kyle Petty finished third for his first top five finish since 1997. Reed Sorenson and Brian Vickers round out the top five.
Nextel Cup points leader Jeff Gordon started 32nd and did not finish. Gordon still has a 132-point lead over Jimmie Johnson in the driver standings.
