Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University pitcher Bart Carter has been named to the 2007 All Ping! Freshman Team selected by All Ping! staff members, it was announced this week.
The lefthander was chosen for third-team honors. It is the third postseason award Carter has been earned this year, as he was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and was selected to Louisville Slugger’s Freshman All-America Team. Carter was also named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week in late February.
The Franklin, Ind., native led the Hilltopper pitching staff with a 4.13 ERA, striking out 64 batters in 85 innings of work. Carter made 12 starts on the year, throwing a pair of complete games, including a three-hit shutout against UALR in late April. The rookie compiled a 6-5 record during his first season on the Hill, allowing a .258 opponent batting average.
During 12 Sun Belt Conference appearances, Carter started eight games and posted a 3-3 record with a 3.75 ERA. He threw 57.2 innings and struck out 46 batters in league play.
