Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig announced Monday that Darrell Horn has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Business Affairs.

Horn has been the school’s Athletic Business Manager since 2000.

“This is an exciting time for WKU Athletics. I am pleased to be a part of the transition into I-A football as the Associate Athletic Director of Business Affairs,” Horn said. “In 2000, I made another transition from the industrial world to the collegiate world. It has been a learning experience ever since, but I have always enjoyed the challenge. I look forward to this new chapter of another transition.”

In his role as Athletic Business Manager, Horn’s numerous responsibilities have included preparing and reviewing the annual budget for 20 sports and support departments, communicating with university administration on budget issues, monitoring athletic scholarships and preparing the school’s annual NCAA audit. Horn — who supervises a staff of two — also is in charge of monitoring all coaches camps for compliance with NCAA regulations, approving expenses in accordance with the state’s purchasing procedures, reviewing cash receipts and special projects as assigned by Selig.

Horn came to the Hill in July 2000 with nearly three decades of financial administrative experience. In his previous position, he worked as a finance processor at Logan Aluminum after serving a stint as the accounts receivable manager at U.S. Colors, Inc., in Scottsville, Ky. Horn began at Fruit of the Loom’s worldwide headquarters in Bowling Green, where he worked 22 years in financial administration — he was responsible for budget development, analysis and forecasting for the final 12 years.

“Darrell Horn has been an invaluable member of the WKU athletic administration for seven years. He understands the complexities of the position and has done an exceptional job since his return to the Hill,” said Selig. “He is one of the primary reasons WKU athletics has operated with a balanced budget for the last six years. As WKU transitions to I-A in football, much of our financial blueprint for our initial five-year transition and departmental expansion will be the work and ingenuity of Darrell Horn.

“WKU is fortunate to have someone as talented and committed to our institution as Darrell and his family have been and continue to be.”

A native of Eldorado, Ill., Horn graduated from Russell County (Ky.) High School in 1968 before earning an accounting degree from WKU in 1972. Horn and his wife Ineta — also a WKU graduate — have two daughters and two grandchildren.
