BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU women's soccer head coach Jason Neidell has announced the first two additions to the Lady Topper squad for the 2010 season. Laura Ray of St. Augustine, Fla., and Chrissy Tchoula from Noblesville, Ind., will suit up for WKU in 2010.
Ray, a transfer from the University of Florida, will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Lady Toppers. The 5-6 forward played in 23 of 24 matches for the Gators as a freshman in 2008, scoring a goal against Tennessee and adding an assist in 524 minutes of play. She was a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Region III team and was named the 2007 Florida Class 4A High School Player of the Year. Ray enjoyed an outstanding prep career at St. Augustine High School, where she scored a county-record 148 career goals and set a single-season county mark with 55.
A four-year soccer letterwinner and starter at St. Augustine High School, Ray also lettered three years in volleyball and once each in basketball and track.
"Laura is an extremely savvy soccer player," Neidell said. "She is very creative on the ball and has a high soccer IQ. With the addition of Laura we feel like we have multiple attacking personalities, which will make us a very difficult team to defend. We are excited to have Laura here this spring to make her adjustment easier and to get her some quality time with the team."
Tchoula, a 5-4 midfielder, was a member of the Indiana State ODP Team from 2005-08. She was also a member of the Region II Pool from 2006-08 and a member of the Region II team in 2008. Tchoula has reached one of the most prestigious pinnacles in all of youth soccer, earning her way into the US National Team Pool from 2006-08. Her Carmel United Soccer Club team won three straight State Cup championships from 2005-07 and finished as the runner-up in 2008. Tchoula is rated as the seventh-best recruit in the Great Lakes Region and 62nd-best nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
While at Noblesville High School, Tchoula earned four letters in soccer and was a four-year starter. In addition, Tchoula was named to the all-state second team in 2007 and 2008 and the first team in 2009.
"To get a student-athlete of Chrissy's credentials speaks volumes to the success that our players and team have garnered in recent years," Neidell explained. "Chrissy is a great playmaker who we feel can make a big impact on our program. Chrissy made an instant connection with WKU, and she is a great fit for our soccer program and university. We are excited to get Chrissy on the field with our team."
