Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University junior middle hitter Megan Argabright and junior setter Julia Noe were both named to the eight-player preseason all-Sun Belt Conference volleyball team which was released on Thursday.
In addition, the Lady Toppers — who have captured at least a share of seven straight Sun Belt East Division championships — were picked by the league coaches to finish third in the east division behind Middle Tennessee and Florida International. All three squads shared the division title last season.
Argabright — the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year — has earned All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association each of the past two season. In 2006, she became the fastest player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills, breaking the WKU single-season record with 590 kills during her sophomore season. She led the Sun Belt Conference a year ago with a .390 hitting percentage, and ranked second averaging 4.86 kills per game. Those two totals ranked 16th and 25th in the nation, respectively.
Noe earned second-team all-SBC honors following her first season as WKU’s starting setter in 2006 after ranking fourth in the league at 12.26 assists per game. Her 1,385 assists ranked in the Lady Topper single-season top ten, and her 59 service aces were the third most in school history. She finished the year ranked 37th in the nation in aces per game and 67th in assists.
Seven of the eight members of the preseason all-conference team came from WKU, Middle Tennessee and Florida International, with FIU sophomore Yarimar Rosa earning Preseason Player-of-the-Year honors. She joined Golden Panther teammate Keila Oliveira on the preseason team, with Ashley Adams, Ashley Asberry and Quanshell Scott representing the Blue Raiders. Kim Muller — who’s Denver squad was picked to win the Sun Belt West Division — rounds out the team.
The Lady Toppers currently find themselves in the middle of preseason practice as they prepare for the 2007 season. WKU will take the court for the first time next Friday (Aug. 24) when it faces off with Indiana at the Northern Illinois Invitational. The Lady Toppers will also meet Western Illinois and Northern Illinois in the opening weekend.
