Bowling Green 49, Boyle County 21
The Purples showed early on they could be a potent offense, scoring on their first offensive play en route to a 49-21 victory over Boyle County.
After Bowling Green blocked a Boyle County field goal, Purples quarterback Trent Steelman connected with D.L. Moore for a 61-yard touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Rebels quickly responded though with a Bryce Perry touchdown pass to Jordan Aumiller to tie the game at 7-7. Both teams would score one more time in the first half sending the Purples and Rebels into the locker room tied at 14-14.
Bowling Green took over in the second half, scoring five touchdowns to win by 28. The Purples defense also performed well, returning an interception for a score and recovering a fumble for a touchdown.
The Purples (1-0) travel to Trinity, the defending Class 4A state champions, next Friday.
Henry Clay 33, Warren Central 19
Warren Central took an early 6-0 lead, but the Henry Clay offense proved too strong in the second half, as the Blue Devils exit Houchens L.T. Smith Stadium with a 33-19 win.
Neither team scored until the second quarter, when Quenton Smith hit Al Thompson for a 96-yard touchdown. Henry Clay would tie the game at 6-6 shortly before halftime.
The Blue Devils ground attack took over in the third quarter. Dontey Gay scored on two rushing touchdowns to give Henry Clay an 18-6 lead. Ryan Phillippi connected with Aaron Boyd later in the quarter, extending the lead to 25-6.
The Dragons would score twice in the fourth quarter, including a long touchdown run by Tevon Boards, to cut the lead to 25-19, but a late Phillippi touchdown run sealed the win for the Blue Devils.
Warren Central (0-1) travels to North Hardin next Friday.
