Bowling Green, Ky. — For the fourth time in two matches, Alicia Dalby found the back of the net lifting the Western Kentucky University women’s soccer team past Morehead State 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.

With the victory, WKU moves to 5-1-1 — for the first time in school history — and Morehead State falls to 1-5-0 on the season.

Dalby found the net off a free kick from 25-yards out. With the goal, Dalby is now the tied for fourth all-time in the Lady Topper record book for goals in a career and is the team’s leader in goals scored.

“Morehead State is a very physical and aggressive team,” said head coach Jason Neidell. “It was a big challenge for us both mentally and physically. We challenged our team at halftime and we responded.”

Amanda Buechel recorded her second goal of her career when she found the back of the net off a pass from Kellie Walker.

“Dalby was huge for us again. Buechel responded to the challenge that we issued at half and stepped up. Kellie Walker won two or three balls in a row and found Buechel’s feet. She had great productivity and was scrappy and challenging for the ball,” stated Neidell.

Meredith Goodson recorded the win in the net for WKU. She recorded four saves and gave up no goals for her second shutout of the season.

Despite being out-shot in the first half, 10-7, the Lady Toppers recorded 20 shots in the match while MSU shot 12 times.

“We kept our back four defensive players in the whole match. They responded to the challenge and were very organized and played really well,” remarked Neidell.

WKU will open Sun Belt Conference play against Florida International next Friday (Sept. 28) at the WKU Soccer Complex at 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
