Bowling Green, Ky. – WKU football standouts Antonio Andrews and Quanterus Smith have been recognized as All-Americans by SI.com, marking the third-straight year the Hilltoppers have been represented by the site.

Andrews was selected as a second-team all-purpose performer and an honorable mention running back after his record-breaking 2012 season. Smith represented the Hilltoppers as an honorable mention defensive lineman selection after leading the nation in sacks per game (1.25).

Andrews and Smith join Louisiana-Lafayette kicker Brett Baer as the only Sun Belt Conference players to be named All-American by SI.com in 2012.

In his first season carrying the load for the Hilltoppers, Andrews rushed for 1,609 yards, ranking sixth in the nation with over 134 rushing yards per game. The junior showed off his versatility in the receiving and return game as well, ending the year with a school-record and nations-best 2,977 all-purpose yards. The total ranks third all-time in FBS history for all-purpose yards in a single season. With 274 yards against Central Michigan in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Dec. 26, Andrews would break Barry Sanders' (Oklahoma State, 1988) record for all-purpose yards in a season.

Smith recorded 12.5 sacks during his senior campaign, a mark that ranks third nationally and that fell a half sack shy of the Sun Belt Conference regular-season record. His 24 career sacks are tied for the most in Sun Belt history. Smith’s dominance earned him Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, making him the first Hilltopper to accomplish the feat.

With the honors, Andrews and Smith become the third and fourth individuals since 2010 to hold the All-American distinction from SI.com.

Bobby Rainey, a 2011 graduate and the Hilltoppers all-time leading rusher, earned All-American honors from SI.com during his junior and senior seasons on the Hill. He was named an honorable mention running back in 2010 and a second-team honoree in 2011 after posting more than 1,600 rushing yards in both seasons.

Former WKU kick returner John Evans was also an honorable mention selection in 2011.

The four individuals have combined for six representations on the SI.com All-American team over the past three seasons, equal to the rest of the entire Sun Belt Conference’s representation during that span.

Andrews and Rainey are two of five players in Sun Belt Conference history to be recognized on the first or second-team by SI.com, joining Troy all-purpose performer Leodis McKelvin (2007), Middle Tennessee State kick returner Damon Nickson Jr. (2006) and North Texas running back Jamario Thomas (2004).
