“Chanell is a great athlete and unbelievable competitor. She can defend and rebound the basketball,” said head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. “She will be a nice addition on the offensive end but will do a lot for us defensively as well. She is a great addition to our family as we continue to try to build our program back to a championship level that can compete for the conference championship and advance in the NCAA Tournament.”

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Chanell Lockhart, a 5-foot-10 combo guard from Chicago, Ill., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Western Kentucky University, head coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced on Tuesday.

“Chanell is a great athlete and unbelievable competitor. She can defend and rebound the basketball,” said Clark-Heard. “She will be a nice addition on the offensive end but will do a lot for us defensively as well. She is a great addition to our family as we continue to try to build our program back to a championship level that can compete for the conference championship and advance in the NCAA Tournament.”

Lockhart will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Lady Toppers, beginning in 2013-14.

Lockhart comes to WKU after spending two seasons at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. Odessa College also produced the overall number one pick in the 1991 NBA Draft, Larry Johnson.

Prior to attending Odessa College, Lockhart prepped at Chicago Vocational Career Academy where she was named a Chicago Tribune Player of the Week during her junior season for the Cavaliers for coach Chet Love.
