BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today that the conference has reached an agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group, among the nation’s largest television broadcasting companies, to produce and distribute 100 events each of the next two years.
Thirty C-USA football games will be televised on Sinclair stations, including WKU’s Oct. 18 contest in Boca Raton, Fla. versus Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast on the newly launched American Sports Network (ASN), a collegiate sports initiative that will air on a number of Sinclair’s broadcast television stations.
Sinclair owns and operates programs and provides sales services to 162 television stations in 78 markets, reaching approximately 40 percent of U.S. television households. It includes FOX, ABC, CBS, MyTV, CW, NBC, Univision and Azteca affiliates.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to partner with such a great broadcaster,” Banowsky said. “This alliance provides new and differentiated exposure, which will benefit our member institutions, athletic programs, students, alumni, and communities. It certainly complements the existing arrangements we have on the FOX and CBS cable platforms.”
WKU currently has eight of its 12 regular-season games lined up for television in 2014 and games on the schedule may still be picked up for broadcast in the future with those games and networks released as soon as they are finalized.
The Hilltoppers’ television schedule for 2014 includes their season opener versus Bowling Green on Aug. 29 (CBS SN), Sept. 6 at Illinois (BTN), Sept. 27 at Navy (CBS SN), Oct. 18 at Florida Atlantic (ASN), Nov. 1 at Louisiana Tech (Fox TBA), Nov. 15 versus Army (CBS SN), Nov. 22 versus UTSA (Fox TBA) and Nov. 28 at Marshall (Fox Sports 1).
