Bowling Green, KY – Despite eleven hits on Sunday evening, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-1, 41-31) fell to the Lake County Captains (3-1, 26-45) 4-3 at Bowling Green Ballpark. Marty Gantt had two base knocks and drove in a run with a sixth-inning double, but two early Hot Rod errors, both leading to Captains runs, proved to be the difference in the loss, the first of the second half for the Hot Rods.
Down 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Hot Rods scored their first run of the game when Gantt drove a 3-2 pitch off the wall in left field to score Luke Maile from first base.
The next three Hot Rods hitters reached when Patrick Leonard was hit by a pitch followed by walks to Ryan Dunn and Brandon Martin. The latter free pass occurred with the bases loaded and allowed the Hot Rods to cut the deficit to one run. Andrew Toles eventually grounded out to second base to end the Hot Rods threat.
Lake County added a run in the top of the seventh, but an eighth-inning RBI single from Ryan Dunn brought the Hot Rods to within one run. That was all of the scoring in the game, as the Hot Rods early errors doomed them in the loss. Bowling Green’s offense featured multi-hit performances from Toles, Tommy Coyle, Justin O’Conner, and Gantt.
