BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Western Kentucky University will host its fourth annual WKU Football Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 25 at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium, kicking off the beginning of the 2012 WKU football season. Fans are encouraged to come out and spend the afternoon at the free event from 4:00-6:00 p.m., with the WKU football team, cheerleaders, Topperettes, Big Red and more.
The 2012 version of Family Fun Day will allow kids and adults of all ages to enjoy the Fun Zone filled with inflatable’s, interactive games, balloon art, face painting, a dunk tank with WKU coaches, a bungee run and much more. From 4:30-6:00 p.m., fans can also get autographs from the WKU football players and coaches. Special football autograph cards and posters will be provided free of charge. All those in attendance will also receive complimentary soccer posters and schedule cards, and kids ages 6-15 can participate in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest at this year’s event. Eligible participants can register online at NFLPPK.com.
Fans are also encouraged to take advantage of a free tour of the WKU football facility. From 4:00-4:30 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to tour the WKU football weight room and training room, with picture opportunities available in the new, state-of-the-art facilities. The tour will only run for the first 30 minutes of Family Fun Day, so fans are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of this opportunity to see first-hand the improved facilities at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
The first 500 fans at Saturday’s event will receive free Coke product and free popcorn. There is also free parking and admission to the event. Members of the WKU ticket office will be available for fans interested in purchasing WKU football season, or single-game tickets for the 2012 season.
WKU opens the season at home on September 1 at 6:00 p.m., against Austin Peay. The Hilltoppers will also welcome 2011 Conference USA champion Southern Mississippi to Bowling Green on September 22, to go along with exciting Sun Belt Conference showdowns with Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Monroe, Florida Atlantic and North Texas.
