Bowling Green, KY – Two doubles from Tyler Goeddel were not enough on Sunday at Bowling Green Ballpark as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (65-46, 27-16) fell to the South Bend Silver Hawks (69-43, 25-18) 5-4. Alex Glenn’s eighth inning solo home run broke a 4-4 tie and sent South Bend to their sixth straight win in Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green offense was held scoreless in the first three innings as the Silver Hawks built up a 3-0 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Justin O’Conner lined a double into left field to bring in Tommy Coyle from first base. Goeddel then doubled home O’Conner to plate the second Hot Rods run of the inning with two outs.
South Bend added a run in the fifth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice from Mike Lang, but the Hot Rods were hanging in there. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the first two Hot Rods hitters reached to start a rally. With one out, Goeddel tucked a double down the left field line to plate Coyle. Joey Rickard then tied the game on a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield.
That was all of the offense for the Hot Rods on the day, however. Glenn’s solo home run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning sent the Hot Rods to their sixth straight home loss to the Silver Hawks. Including August of 2012, the Hot Rods are now 2-11 against South Bend in their last 13 home games.
