Midland, MI – After the two teams traded rallies in the early part of the game, Goeddel came to the plate after Jake Hager hit his third single with no outs in the sixth. The 19-year-old then lined a home run over the wall in left field to give the Hot Rods a 5-3 advantage. In just 37 pro games, Goeddel has hit four homers and had driven in 18 runs.
Jake Floethe lasted an impressive seven innings, which is a season-high for Hot Rods pitchers. The righty allowed four runs, but just two were earned because of errors. Floethe did not walk a batter, struck out six, and left in line for his sixth victory of the season.
However, the Loons rallied late to send the Hot Rods to the loss in game one of this three-game series. In the ninth, reliever Austin Hubbard threw a ball wide at third base to allow the winning run to score. At the plate for the Hot Rods, Cameron Seitzer also contributed with a three-hit night.
