It's going to be a Friday night match-up that's got a lot of WKU fans looking to go to Kansas City.
"The turnout has been fantastic. Hilltopper nation is coming out strong. We'll have at least two fan buses going to Kansas City for the game on Friday night. We'll have almost 500 hilltopper fans there, which will be a great show," said Hilltopper Athletic Foundation Executive Director Kyle Chapman.
The sixteenth seeded Hilltoppers will play against the number one seed, the Kansas Jayhawks.
"I'm really excited to see us in there. I hope we do well. I think putting us against Kansas in the beginning is bit of a tough shot, but hopefully our boys can pull through," said WKU Junior Alex Jacobs.
"It's been a fantastic way to end it with Coach Harper, nothing surprises us after that run he put together last year. The kids and the staff have done a fantastic job, and the future is very very bright for WKU athletics across the board," said Chapman.
WKU athletic officials said getting events organized for the NCAA tournament can be difficult.
"It's been a logistical challenge, but the good thing is we went through all this last year with our men's basketball team. It's the second straight season they've won the Sun Belt Conference Championship. We went to Dayton last year and Louisville, so we had a lot to fall back on, just a lot of planning behind the scenes, and our staff has done a great job to be prepared for the demand we knew we would have once we were selected to go to Kansas City," said Chapman.
While not every fan may be going, they say they're glad the tops are back on top.
"A lot of people were a little discouraged with the way the season worked out. It's kind of hard to go see your team not perform to your expectations, but I think that sun belt win really kind of surprised people, and maybe even woke up a little bit of school spirit," said Jacobs.
It's that spirit that fans and students will take to Kansas City.
The fan buses will be leaving Diddle Arena at 8 on Friday morning, and depending on how the Tops do, will depend on when they return.
