BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The dynamic duo of All-America candidates Alexis Govan and Chastity Gooch combined to score 36 points and led WKU to a 74-64 win at the Bank of Kentucky Center over Northern Kentucky.
Gooch had 20 points and 16 rebounds to record her 29th career double-double and third of the 2013-14 season. She tied her career high with 16 rebounds. Govan added 16 points to help WKU hand NKU their first loss at the Bank of Kentucky Center this season.

After the teams played to an 15-15 deadlock through the first 11:29 of the contest, the pace finally picked up and began to favor the Lady Toppers. The Lady Toppers scored six of the next seven points in the game, including two baskets by freshman Bria Gaines. NKU later cut a WKU lead to four at 31-27 with 2:53 left in the half before the Lady Toppers ended the half on a 10-4 run to lead 41-31 at the half. WKU hit 10-of-12 shots to end the half after starting 5-of-14.
WKU was able to hold the 10-point lead at the half despite three starters picking up two fouls and a fourth player off the bench picking up three fouls in the opening half. The teams combined to shoot 24 free throws in the opening half as 14 of the games' first 30 points came from the charity stripe.
The Lady Toppers came out of the locker room and extended the lead to as many 17 points. The Norse answered with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 55-49 before a Gooch basket ended the run with 7:24 left in the game. Govan followed Gooch's score with her own to help WKU extend the lead back to 10 at 59-49 where the Lady Toppers were able to stay ahead and pull out the win.
