BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU baseball team will be looking to knock off a fifth ranked opponent in the last six seasons as the Hilltoppers travel to Lexington to face eighth-ranked Kentucky on Tuesday at Cliff Hagan Stadium. WKU has defeated four ranked opponents since the 2008 season, including 18th-ranked Louisville in 2012 in Bowling Green.

The Hilltoppers (10-9, 3-0) are coming off a three-game series sweep of Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee over the weekend, scoring 27 runs in the three-game series, led by Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Ryan Huck. Huck blasted four home runs in the series and went 6-for-8 with seven RBI.

The Hilltoppers have won four out of the last five meetings with the Wildcats, dropping a 7-4 decision in Lexington last season. WKU had won two in a row in Lexington before last year’s defeat. WKU and Kentucky will be meeting for the eighth consecutive season, with Kentucky holding the all-time advantage between the two schools, 31-23. WKU went just 7-21 against Kentucky in the first 28 meetings, but has gone 16-10 in the last 26, including going 9-6 in the last 15 meetings.

Tuesday's matchup will be the first of two meetings between WKU and Kentucky this season, as the two programs will meet on April 19 in Bowling Green at Bowling Green Ballpark, where the Hilltoppers have gone 2-0 against Kentucky all-time.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Alex Mercer (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will be making his first career start on Tuesday. Mercer has tossed four innings so far in 2013, striking out eight, while allowing only three hits.
