Hilltoppers Host Western Carolina Saturday Night in 30thAnnual BB&T Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU and Western Carolina meet for the first time in 24 years Saturday night at 7:30 PM at E.A. Diddle Arena in the second and final game of the mainland portion of the 2012 Cancun Challenge.

WKU defeated Austin Peay in the first game of the Cancun Challenge Tuesday night, and Western Carolina lost at Wichita State Thursday night. Both teams will head to Cancun, along with six other schools, for two more games next week.

A win on Saturday would be WKU’s seventh-straight at home and send them to Mexico with a 2-1 record on the season.

Both Tuesday’s game against Austin Peay and Saturday’s contest against Western Carolina are part of the Cancun Challenge, and WKU heads to Mexico next week to play two more games in the early-season tournament.

The game will be broadcast on the radio on WKLX-FM 100.7 in Bowling Green with Jeff Younglove and Hal Schmitt on the call. This game is not on the full radio network. There is no television for Saturday's game, and live stats, live video and live audio are available on WKUSports.com.

Saturday's game is the 30th Annual BB&T Classic. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free red towel with the "50 Seasons of Diddle Arena" logo, and Super Fan will be in attendance giving away free BB&T t-shirts throughout the game.

Diddle Arena in the first game of the 2012 Cancun Challenge. The game was tied at halftime, 33-all, before the Hilltoppers exploded in the second 20 minutes to pick up the season’s first win. WKU has now won eight of its last 11 games and 11 of its last 13 home openers. George Fant led WKU with 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Jamal Crook added 16 points and nine assists. Fant’s 14 rebounds were a career high, and Crook scored his 500th career point in the first half in his 100th game in a Hilltopper uniform. Teeng Akol added 14 points and six rebounds, and T.J. Price contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. A.J. Lynch led the Governors with 15 points, and Chris Horton had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

HILLTOPPER INDIVIDUAL TRENDS

• Jamal Crook has had 14 double digit scoring games in 37 games since the start of his junior season after having just one in 63 games in his freshman and sophomore seasons.

• George Fant has had at least 10 points in seven of the last eight games.
