Eastlake, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (40-26, 78-58) dropped an 11-4 decision to the Lake County Captains (37-29, 68-67) on Thursday night at Classic Park. The Captains used a four-run second and a five-run fifth to win for the second straight night against the Hot Rods. Midwest League Postseason All-Star Cameron Seitzer doubled home a run for the Hot Rods in the loss, and Juniel Querecuto had his second straight two-hit game.
Lake County's offense was on fire from the get-go on Thursday against Hot Rods starter Sean Bierman. Jake Lowery capped a four-run second inning with a three-run home run to right field. The Captains added a run in the third inning and then five more in the fifth. At the end of five frames, the Hot Rods were starting right into a 10-0 deficit.
The Hot Rods finally graced the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Drew Vettleson and Jeff Malm both drew walks to begin the inning. The free passes were followed by a Taylor Motter RBI-single into left field to put the Hot Rods on the board. That was it for the Hot Rods in the frame, later hitting into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.
Bowling Green scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning, including an RBI-double from Cameron Seitzer. Seitzer now leads the team with 36 doubles on the season, extending the single-season franchise record. That was all the offense for the Hot Rods, however, as the Captains offensive onslaught was too much to overcome on Thursday night.
The seven-game road trip comes to a close on Friday night with the finale of a three-game set with the Lake County Captains at Classic Park at 6:00 PM CDT. Bowling Green will give the start to RHP Parker Markel (11-5, 3.59), while the Captains will counter with LHP Danny Jimenez (2-4, 5.36).
