Bowling Green, KY - For the second game in a row, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (29-21) rallied from an early deficit to tie the Fort Wayne TinCaps (27-22), but the TinCaps climbed back ahead for a 5-4 victory on Memorial Day at Bowling Green Ballpark. Justin O'Conner drove in two runs for the second consecutive time while RHP Marcus Jensen battled through a season-high four innings of relief.
Monday's contest started in a similar fashion to Fort Wayne's victory on Sunday. The TinCaps touched RHP Jeff Ames for three runs in the first inning, including an RBI triple by Alberth Martinez. Andrew Toles opened the home half of the inning with a single and made it to third base where he scored on a sacrifice fly from Joey Rickard, cutting the Fort Wayne lead to 3-1.
Both teams scored again in the third inning. Brian Adams brought in Gabriel Quintana with a single to push the lead back to three runs. However, the Hot Rods fought back to a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the frame. Toles came in on a groundout hit by Tyler Goeddel while Luke Maile scored one batter later on an O'Conner infield single off the leg of TinCap LHP Max Fried.
RHP Matthew Chabot replaced Fried in the fifth and immediately got into trouble. Bowling Green loaded the bases with no outs and tied the game at 4-all on a single by O'Conner. The Hot Rods could not push across the go-ahead run after a pair of strikeouts and a fly out ended the inning.
Fort Wayne pushed across the winning run during the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly. Jeremy Baltz and Adams led off the frame with base hits followed by a ground out from Rodney Daal. Stephen Carmon answered with a fly ball to right fielder Joey Rickard, whose relay to Maile at home plate did not retire Baltz after he snuck past the tag. Fort Wayne held on to its 5-4 lead after RHP Roman Madrid pitched a scoreless ninth inning while stranding Toles at third base to end the game.
