Bowling Green, KY - Despite six shutout innings from Jeff Ames, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-2, 41-32) fell to the Lake County Captains (4-1, 27-45) 1-0 on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Joe Sever lined a two-out double to right field for the game's only run. Tommy Coyle had two hits in the loss for the Hot Rods, the team's second straight defeat after a five game winning streak.
Sever's clutch double occurred after Dorssys Paulino reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout with one out in the top of the ninth. A wild pitch sent Paulino to second base before coming in to score on the Sever double that scored the contest's only tally.
The loss is just the fourth this season for the Hot Rods in 13 Ames starts. The righty allowed a career-high five walks but was successfully able to work around them to stretch his scoreless innings streak to 15.1. After a five-batter first inning, Ames was just one over the minimum in his final five frames.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, a Coyle single and Justin O'Conner walk put runners on at the corners for Marty Gantt, who lined sharply to second base for the game's final out.
